ABSTRACT
Inclusive family support is essential for the wellbeing of children and families, especially in culturally diverse countries like Nepal. This pilot cross-sectional study explored how culturally responsive practices can promote inclusive family support services in Nepal. Data were collected from 150 participants, including 100 family members and 50 service providers, across urban, semiurban and rural districts. Quantitative surveys assessed perceptions of access, cultural sensitivity, trust and satisfaction, whereas qualitative interviews and focus group discussions explored experiences, challenges and professional needs. Results showed that families valued trust, respect for traditions and meaningful engagement, with cultural sensitivity rated highest and barriers to inclusion lowest. Service providers reported moderate competence in culturally responsive practices, with adaptation of services as a strength and institutional support as a weakness. Rural and marginalized communities faced greater access challenges, and prior training improved providers’ cultural awareness and service adaptation. The study highlights the importance of culturally sensitive strategies, professional training and systemic support in developing inclusive family support services. These findings provide guidance for policymakers, practitioners and researchers to strengthen family support systems, promote equity and enhance social cohesion in Nepal.
