This fact sheet explains the role played by social dialogue in the EU. It is a fundamental component of the European social model. It empowers representatives of management and labour (‘the social partners’) to contribute actively, including through agreements, to designing European social and employment policy. The fact sheet covers the legal framework, objectives and achievements of social dialogue in the EU, and the role played by the European Parliament in advancing it.
