The Local
The Region of Peel—a sprawling suburb just west of Toronto made up of the cities of Mississauga, Brampton, and the Town of Caledon—has generally had a manageable shelter system. That has changed dramatically in the past few years as Peel has found itself in a vortex of crises. In the midst of a pandemic and a housing affordability crisis, the Region has seen a huge influx of asylum seekers with nowhere to go and few means to settle down.
