Country faces growing social worker shortage as Tennessee DCS pushes to recruit the next generation

Among some of the state’s most vulnerable children, Tennessee leaders are searching for more people willing to step into one of the most demanding — and meaningful — careers in public service. “It has to be in your heart to be a social worker and to work with kids in the situations that these case managers will face,” said Ashley Zarach with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.
