Accelerating the science of equity: Insights and innovations from Health Psychology on pain disparities.

Health Psychology, Vol 45(1), Jan 2026, 1-4; doi:10.1037/hea0001566

This is an introduction to the special issue “Accelerating Innovative Strategies for Greater Equity and Inclusion in Pain Care and Research.” The articles collected in this Health Psychology special issue arrive at a time when such work faces profound headwinds. Legislative efforts to curtail diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, limit health equity funding, and impose restrictive health care policies threaten marginalized communities, as well as the scholars and clinicians working to support them. It is the authors’ hope that this entire collection serves as both a vital scientific resource and a catalyst for the sustained effort required to build a more just and equitable world for all people in pain.
