Parliament approves further tightening of Finland’s citizenship laws

The amendment to the Citizenship Act means that, in future, applicants must be able to prove they can support themselves through employment or entrepreneurship. Previously, social welfare payments were also accepted as a source of income when applying for Finnish citizenship — but they will not be in future.

BASW & SWU set to highlight working conditions campaign at Westminster

The campaign comes in response to years of research by BASW, SWU and others showing deteriorating conditions for social workers. New research by SWU with ITV News published in 2025 of 2,380 social workers shows that 86% of social workers believe the profession has inadequate staffing levels, with 84% saying these shortages are seriously limiting their ability to do their jobs properly.

Special education is a very broad category. Under the Department of Education, it encompasses everything from dyslexia to a child who is blind. There is no educational need so severe that a child is not entitled to free and adequate education. When navigating challenges related to your child’s special needs education, you really need an advocate – in the legal sense of the term rather than the political one. You need someone whose job it is to take your call and walk you through options, or just document your call and start an inquiry into your case.
