Despite the substantial challenges to develop brand new emergency rental assistance programs, federal relief has successfully reached families and kept them housed in the face of the pandemic recession and financial insecurity. Program administrators learned critical lessons about housing stability and funding created a network of resources for renters across the country. As these programs begin to exhaust their funding and these resources deteriorates, renters will again be left with little assistance and support. As the housing affordability crisis worsens, these new programs can be leveraged to promote long-term stability.
