How Medicare Could Provide Dental, Vision, and Hearing Care for Beneficiaries

There is considerable unmet need for dental, vision, and hearing services among Medicare beneficiaries, and a high level of cost burden. A voluntary supplemental benefit, administered by Medicare, could cover preventive care visits at a total cost of about $1.9 billion per year, paid for by $25 monthly premiums. This benefit could insure nearly 9 million beneficiaries if the policy included subsidies for people with low incomes.
