Retaining Latino Students: Culturally Responsive Instruction in Colleges and Universities

Abstract

In this article the authors define and describe culturally responsive teaching (CRT) in college and university courses. Whereas, the Latino population in our K-12 schools has grown rapidly, we have not seen such growth in the population of Latino students in our postsecondary schools. It is the authors’ position that CRT can be a tool in helping Latinos students be more successful in traditionally White dominated colleges and universities.
