Disaster Response in Asia and the Pacific: A Guide to International Tools and Services is designed to help disaster managers in national Governments gain basic knowledge of how to use international tools and services. The guide is not prescriptive. It aims to support the growing disaster response and disaster response preparedness capabilities that exist at national level across Asia and the Pacific.

The guide concentrates on key tools and services that can be helpful to disaster managers during the response and response preparedness phases of the disaster programme cycle. It does not include tools and services encompassed by disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts, nor does it cover longer-term disaster recovery instruments. The guide includes some entries relevant to conflict situations. It does not include tools or services that are being developed.

The abstract of a systematic review should provide a structured summary that enables a quick assessment of the review’s validity and applicability, and easy identification in electronic searching.
Despite published guidance on writing the abstract in the PRISMA Statement guiding the reporting of systematic reviews in general and elsewhere, evaluations show that reporting of systematic reviews in journal and conference abstracts is poor.
We developed consensus-based reporting guidelines as an extension to the PRISMA Statement on good reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses in abstracts.
The PRISMA for Abstracts checklist gives authors a framework for condensing their systematic review into the essentials for an abstract that will meet the needs of many readers.

The TestEdge Program is designed to help elementary and high school students self-regulate their emotional and physiological responses to challenging and stressful situations, including school tests. The 12-week program, based on research on test anxiety, emotional anxiety, and social and emotional learning, is composed of 12-15 lessons, depending on the participants’ grade level, which last about 20 minutes each and are taught twice weekly by a classroom teacher (although different schedules can be followed). The lessons provide students with a better understanding of stress, emotions, and the brain, including its function and how it interacts with the heart. Students learn how to strengthen their expression of positive emotions, neutralize negative attitudes, solve problems, use computer technologies in preparing for and taking tests, and apply coherence-building techniques (i.e., methods of self-regulating stress and anxiety through the use of positive emotion in shifting attention from the brain to the physical area of the heart) while taking tests.

Relationship Smarts PLUS (RS+) is designed to help youth ages 14-18 gain knowledge and develop skills for making good decisions about forming and maintaining healthy relationships. Based on the cognitive and communications theories and concepts embodied in the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP), reviewed separately by NREPP, RS+ aims to increase reasoning and positive conflict management skills, healthy relationship skills and knowledge, and beliefs regarding healthy relationships, while decreasing destructive verbal and physical aggression.

RS+ is implemented by an instructor in 13 sessions, each of approximately 1 hour, that cover four units: Foundation for Understanding Romantic Relationships, Knowledge About Dating Relationship Processes, Communication Skills for Healthy Relationships and Marriages, and Marriage and Planning for the Future. Topics addressed include setting and attaining future goals, dealing with peer pressure, understanding the building blocks of good relationships and the meaning of love and intimacy, identifying and making good relationship choices, determining whether a relationship is healthy or unhealthy, using good communication skills and changing negative communication patterns, and understanding why a healthy marriage matters. Sessions include presentations, small- and large-group discussions, creative activities, practice using specific relationship skills, and video illustrations. Youth are also given opportunities through brief take-home activities to discuss what they have learned in the class with a parent or trusted adult.
